Can anyone help me identify a Jerome Bushyhead piece of artwork that my family owns. It is not a "labeled" piece. On the back of the board it just says:
Order #1, No. 5, Box 631, El Reno, OK.

It is signed and dated in 1970. The size of the art is 14 x 11 and is of four (4) Indians men sitting on the ground and one (1) indian man standing and talking to the others.

I have looked everywhere and can not find any info on this painting.
I do have photos of the art if I need to send to someone for verification.

Thank you,
Dave

Hi Dave,

An image of the painting would certainly be helpful. If you have an image, please reply to this message and click on Additional Options. Then use the Attach field to attach the image to your message.
If that doesn't work, then please use the form at http://artnatam.com/contact.html.

Thanks,

Marten

Thanks,

Dave

Please do tell. In the meantime I'll see if I can find anything about the painting.

Hello Marten,

The story goes as follows:
My Uncle ran a local bank in El Reno, Oklahoma, and Jerome needed a loan when he first started painting. This was in 1970. He came in to see my Uncle and when he gave him the loan he brought this painting in and gave it to my Uncle.  My Uncle gave it to my father just before he died in 1977.
Another interesting twist is that my father and Jerome went to High school together back in Oklahoma. I received the painting just this past week when my father passed away. I'm trying to find any infomation that I can about Jerome and his art.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I have emailed with John Kostura (this site's creator), who knew Jerome Bushyhead personally, but he couldn't tell me much about the artwork either, other than that the painting looks like one of Jerome's early works.
Neither of us are in touch in Jerome's family so it will be hard to get any additional information on the painting.

It would be nice if the image could be included in Jerome's space on this website. He used his space to sell art prints online, which enabled him to live off his art.
Please let me know if it's ok and if you want your name mentioned (as the painting's owner).

thanks - regards,

Marten

Marten,

The main thing I'm looking to obtain is an approximate value of the painting. Any idea what something like this would be worth??
I don't mind if you post the picture on the web site. What title would you use?? Could you put that I'm interested in finding out more information, and that anyone with more info could post on this forum?

Thanks,

Dave

Ok. Well, on http://www.artnatam.com/bhead/bio.html Jerome said that his original works started at $5,000, but that was before the year 2000. Since then the price may have gone up or down, you never know. But I'm just a webmaster, for an art appraisal http://www.google.com/search?q=art+appraisal may have what you're looking for.

Will do. I would like to add: "Currently owned by ......". Could I have your name, or do you prefer anonymity?
