My mother did not use a cradle board to carry us kids, but I grew up seeing cradle boards in use. The cradle boards were used to protect the child from the cold and it was handy to hang in a tree or lean against something . The cradle board could also be hung from a saddle horn for a long days ride.

This painting was done mostly as a study. I painted it in an impressionism style to learn the style. It's heavy with paint and has about eight layer's of transparent glaze.
